In our area, this little plant grows in high mountain meadows.
It is five or six inches tall, and usually has three dull-pink
flowers on each stem. The species name triflorum refers
to these three blossoms.
The plant is also knows as Purple Avens and Old-Man's Whiskers.
As the seeds mature, a long feathery plume develops on each one.
These look somewhat like puffs of smoke covering the meadow.
