Singleleaf Ash
(Fraxinus anomala)
This is an unusual tree in its genus -- all of the others have compound leaves,
but this one has just simple single leaves. It is named accordingly --
the species name, anomala means that it doesn't fit the pattern.
They are small trees, usually only about fifteen or twenty feet tall. They grow in dry rocky
places in the canyons of the Colorado Plateau area.
