A small tree or shrub which is found growing near streams or in
other moist places.
The leaves and branches grow in an alternate pattern.
Notice the doubly toothed leaves. Each main tooth has tiny secondary
teeth.
In the spring it has both male (staminate) and female (pistillate)
catkins. Later in the year the female catkins, containing the seeds,
turn reddish brown and look like small cones.
